Makeup can be a lot of fun to apply and play with, given all the different colors, shades, and types of products available. But when it comes to removing it after a full day sitting on our skin, it can be a total nightmare. And most makeup removal products contain a large number of ingredients that only harm us. So avoid the nightmare of removing makeup and toxic ingredients with these 3 DIY makeup remover recipes!

Makeup Remover Recipes

Lightweight and Easy to Nourish Makeup Remover:
What do you need:

  • 1 ½ – 2 cups distilled water
  • 2 tbsp light oil (such as olive, jojoba, almond)
  • 1 tbsp liquid castile soap (such as Dr. Bronners)
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel juice
  • 20 drops of essential oil such as lavender or geranium (optional)

How to do it:

Combine all the ingredients in a glass jar and seal tightly. Shake vigorously until all contents are well mixed.

How to use it:
Dip a cotton ball or rub into the jar and let it soak completely. Then gently rub over your face until all makeup is removed and your true, beautiful self is revealed. Rinse with lukewarm water and again with cool, dry water.

Toner + Makeup Remover with Apple Cider Vinegar
If you’re in a rush and need something less complicated, with fewer ingredients but still effective and beneficial, try this simple apple cider vinegar toner to restore natural pH balance and remove makeup and dirt.

What do you need:

  • 1 green tea bag
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar (if you have dry skin, use a little less, if it’s oily use a little more)

How to do it:
First, bring the water to a boil and let the green tea bag steep for 15-20 minutes. Then put the tea in the fridge until cool. Next, combine the green tea and apple cider vinegar in a glass jar and seal tightly. Gently shake the pitcher so that the two liquids are well mixed.

How to use it:
Dip a cotton ball or rub into the jar and let it soak completely. Then gently rub over your face until all makeup is removed and your true, beautiful self is revealed.

Exfoliate + Nourish with Baking Soda and Honey
Another super easy way to remove makeup and dirt without having to buy expensive products from the store is a simple combination of honey and baking soda. Baking soda exfoliates and removes makeup and oil buildup, while honey nourishes newly exposed skin.

What do you need:
1 tbsp honey
½ tsp baking soda
After rinsing your face with lukewarm water, use your hands to rub in the honey and baking soda, then gently apply to the face. Soak a washcloth in warm water and use to remove honey, baking soda mask and makeup and dirt.

Because baking soda can dry out skin, make sure to moisten with a light oil like almond or jojoba afterward.
