People at risk for diabetes may notice a change in their skin color. This occurs mainly in the folds of the skin or in the joints, elbows and knees. There can often be dark spots on the neck, armpits or groin, due to the insulin resistance the body is subjected to. These spots are oval in shape, have a scaly texture and are called diabetic dermopathy.
