Pre-Existing Conditions
You should check your insurance policy carefully for what pre-existing conditions, if any, it covers. That’s because this area is one in which various insurance providers differ.
For instance, high blood pressure is a pre-existing condition that some insurance companies cover, but others exclude. Similarly, some insurers will cover pre-existing conditions if you maintain the policy for a specific period.
In most cases, getting insurance cover for pre-existing conditions will involve paying additional premiums
Pregnancies and Abortions
The costs of going through pregnancy or having an abortion are not covered under medical insurance. Even if you have to undergo an emergency Caesarean section, you cannot recover the costs from your insurer.
That is because insurance providers do not consider pregnancy as a medical condition.
Regarding abortions, insurers only provide cover if the termination is carried out to save the mother’s life. No insurance cover is provided in the event of voluntary abortions.
Costs of Diagnostics
If you have to go through procedures or testing to identify a condition or disease, your insurance policy will not cover the costs. Such diagnostics could include blood tests or CT scans, which can be incredibly costly.
Before you undergo potentially expensive diagnostics, check what tests and procedures are covered. Even if these tests are conducted in a hospital, they still may not be covered under your insurance policy.
